"I love the magic of temporary art and the impermanence of face and body painting; being able to 'become' different characters, to embody a theme or a concept - and yet to have the ability to change it all at the drop of a hat... there is just something magical in that.
I think of my body art as a blend of costuming, makeup artistry and fashion design and styling. Some designs literally take hours and some only take minutes, but all have some element of immediate gratification.
When you see people's reaction to what you look like, it feels like my artwork really matters. When I make people smile, that in turn makes me very happy."

Face Painting brings your imagination to life. Joy is available for on-site painting whether it's at your home, private party, corporate event or town fair.
Each design is hand painted and can vary from a full detailed face mask to smaller, faster designs. Face Painting engages creative spirits and is a great way to entertain kids of all ages! Designs can compliment a party theme or Joy can provide a selection of ideas to paint any idea their hearts desire.
Joy has a natural talent for working with children. She teaches private art classes and has worked with children for years. Formally trained in fine arts, Joy attended both Hartford Art School and the Fashion Institute of Technology. She has taken private art classes since the age of 7 and all throughout her life. She deeply appreciates the value of nurturing the creative 'streak' within every child. That simple gesture can alter a child's entire psyche: expanding their imagination, vision, goals and life perspective.
"Laughing brains are more absorbent," (Brown) Having fun is healthy! Being creative is healthy! Let's face it, the paint washes off, but the memories will last a lifetime. And this is NOT just for kids!
All the paints & glitters that Joy uses are the highest quality materials available on the market, professional cosmetic-grade, FDA approved. They wash off with soap & water or ultra-gentle makeup remover.
Occasionally certain pigments (such as black or red) will leave trace stains (think of your most brilliant red lipstick, when wiped off it leaves a slight red hue, then fades). Trace stains can easily be removed with an all-natural homemade mixture of baking soda & water. Spoon baking soda into the palm of your hand & mix with a few drops of water (to the consistency of toothpaste) then use it as a gentle exfoliant/cleanser (buffing the skin in soft circular motions).
If any cosmetics or glitter happens to get into the eyes, flush with water or eye drops. Our glitter is cosmetic grade and will "blink out" of the eyes. Unlike some, we NEVER use craft glitter on the skin, & NEVER use cheap, acrylic paints that can cause allergic reactions, hives or breakouts. We use ONLY the best products & always pay special attention to best hygienic & universal sanitary practices. Our products are safe for even the most sensitive skin, but if you are not sure, feel free to ask for a swatch-test.

To wash face paint off, use a mild liquid soap (such as Johnson & Johnson No More Tears Shampoo or unscented Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap); do not wet the face yet! Massage the soap over the dry paint, using small circles, then simply wipe it off with a damp wash cloth! This method is much easier and faster than wetting the whole face with water and having the paint all run together into a mess :)
